Thank you to Brunswick Street Gallery for including two images from my series Towards: as part of the Reality and its Double group exhibition. And thanks to all the friends who came to the launch party to check it out with me! Love you all.
"Photography has often been characterised as a kind of mirror, a surface reflecting the appearance of the world around us. While many artists are attracted to the camera for its uncanny ability to mirror and record reality, others see in photography an opportunity to poetically express the subjectivity of truth and the distortion of memory. Reality and its Double is a group photography exhibition of works that blur the boundary between fact and fiction, the world and the image, reality and its double."

The series Towards: is an attempt to express the intangible emotional layers that augment the experience – and engineering feat – of modern air travel. A sense of escape, possibility, unknown, and other such evocations of travel become visible in these photographs via light leaks and aurora-esque colours. Mirroring the idea of unfolding and unpredictability, Towards: uses no digital editing. The dreamscape we tend to experience around flying is instead depicted through boiling 35mm film in saltwater, citrus, vinegar, and sunflowers, drying it out, and waiting to see what develops.
