Snake-Hold
Unable to face the sudden death of her family, a woman named Violet runs from the opalescent heat of her town, from cold superstitions, dark fortunes, and from her empty family home which hangs suspended in time. Violet finds herself squatting in another abandoned place; a house in Melbourne's Inner North that she turned into a bed-and-breakfast called The Ocean Pearl which will host four strangers for the Summer. Four plates of eggs for breakfast each morning, stolen flowers fresh in cracked vases, and conversations about anything except for the past. As the inhabitants of The Ocean Pearl's lives twist and knot together, Violet finds that the more she pulls herself from the coils of what she runs from, the tighter they squeeze her.
Snake-Hold is a tense but reflective exploration of avoidance for adult readers. A tragically ironic and synaesthetic psychological drama.
